Glenn Furuta, MD, has received the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) 2021 Harry Shwachman Award. Furuta was recognized during the 2021 NASPGHAN Annual Meeting on Monday, December 13.
Furuta is director of the Gastrointestinal Eosinophilic Diseases Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado and co-leader of the Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR).
The prestigious Shwachman Award honors a member of NASPGHAN for outstanding achievements in the field of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. Awardees are recognized for major, lifelong scientific or educational contributions to the field in North America.
“Glenn has been a powerful mover in the field of gastroenterology, especially eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, making him especially deserving of this honor,” says CEGIR Principal Investigator Marc Rothenberg, MD, PhD. “CEGIR is lucky to have Glenn at its helm.”
The Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR) is part of the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network (RDCRN), which is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and led by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) through its Division of Rare Diseases Research Innovation (DRDRI). CEGIR is funded under grant number U54AI117804 as a collaboration between NCATS, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
