Goals, Mission & Vision h1 >
Goals
Overall Goals
- Improve the lives of individuals with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders
- Facilitate research on eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), eosinophilic gastritis (EoG), eosinophilic enteritis (EoN), and eosinophilic colitis (EoC) through the development of a Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR)
- Establish a EGID Patient Contact Registry
- Develop and maintain a website with information for scientists, health care providers, patients, and professional organizations
Clinical Research Project 1 Goals
- Determine the correlation of clinical outcome measures (COMs) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with the histological disease activity as measured by mucosal eosinophil counts
- Develop a new gold standard for EoE, EoG, EoN, and/or EoC diagnosis and monitoring
- Determine the correlation of the molecular profile for EoE, EoG, EoN, and EoC with COMs and mucosal eosinophilia
Clinical Research Project 2 Goals
- Determine the efficacy of dupilumab compared to placebo, to reduce eosinophilic inflammation in the stomach of patients with EoG/EoN
- Determine the correlation of clinical outcome measures (COMs) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for patients with EoG/EoN treated with dupilumab versus placebo
- Identify whether there is an association with dupilumab treatment with blood and tissue biomarkers and mRNA expression profiles of children and adults with EoG/EoN
Pilot/Demonstration Clinical Research Program Goals
- Support new ideas that have potential to create and/or change paradigms concerning EoE, EoG, EoN, and EoC
Training (Career Development) Program Goals
- Attract early stage scholars to the field of rare diseases, with a focus on EGIDs
- Help scholars gain research experiences in EGIDs by providing opportunities to visit centers of excellence through an apprenticeship program
- Aid CEGIR Trainees in developing a broad understanding of the basic, translational, and clinical science pertinent to the immunobiology, pathogenesis, and genetics of EoE, EoG, EoN, and EoC via didactic instruction
- Enhance and encourage scholars’ career development along a rare diseases career path
- Facilitate CEGIR Trainee networking and integration in the EoE, EoG, EoN, and EoC research community
Patient Advocacy Goals
In collaboration with our partner Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs):
- Develop efficient pathways to communicate the latest clinical and research developments to patients and their families (via websites, social media, newsletters, conferences, contact registries)
- Offer a forum for the collection and dissemination of patient and family perspectives and priorities
- Offer public educational initiatives to raise awareness of and quality of care for eosinophilic GI diseases
Industry Collaboration Goals
- Partner with industry in order to improve the lives of patients with EGIDs, including conducting clinical trials
CEGIR Mission Statement
The Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR) is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders through innovative research, clinical expertise and education via collaborations between scientists, health care providers, patients, and professional organizations.
CEGIR Diversity Historical Statement
In response to longstanding, systemic racial, cultural and gender injustices that have affected health care delivery, CEGIR developed a committee to focus on diversity and inclusion in our research and education activities. These efforts intend to improve the care for underrepresented populations with EGIDs.
CEGIR Diversity Mission Statement
We will develop an understanding of cultural, ethnic and racial diversity and structural racism, particularly as it pertains to underrepresented populations of patients with eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDS); strive to examine systemic and implicit biases; identify associated barriers to our research; and integrate the knowledge into our research studies and educational initiatives, so that we can better serve all patients with EGIDs.
CEGIR Diversity Vision Statement
CEGIR actively promotes a culture of diversity and inclusivity in its membership, in its innovative research studies and its educational initiatives.
